A couple of new slip joints

A Lanny's clip and a cattle knife.

I finished these a few weeks ago.

Blades are CPM-154 at 60 RC. Integral 416 stainless liners / bolsters mill relieved at the pivot. Stag on both, Lany's clip has a pivot bushing and file worked liners.

These are so nice. Just lovely. Did you use 154CPM for the springs and if so would you share the heat treat?

Thanks everyone.

Dave, I tool wrap them and in the oven at 1500 for 10 minutes then up to 1950 for 45 minutes. Plate quench then temper 2 hours 2 times at 1150. That gets me 48 RC on the springs. Works for ATS-34 and 154-CM also.

Thanks

Craig

Craig,
Love them, great craftmanship. Nice stag, how are you spinning the pins down in the stag crevices?

Thanks again

Brad I make my spinners from drill rod and taper the point to keep it as small as I can.

After spinning I use a "polishing pin" from Rio Grande to polish the marks out. This is a small mandrel that hold small 3mm craytex.

http://www.riogrande.com/Product/Pol...m/332690?pos=4

I ordered some extra mandrels to keep from changing the craytex rods. Use a small round burr to cut a dimple in the end of the rod to keep it from sliding off the spun pin.

The smaller pins are stainless dome head nails from McMaster Carr. I polish these before installing them. I made a spinner type support from nickle silver and use if to hold the head while I peen it on the inside of the liner. The N/S helps keep from scratching the head. I hold it in a tool makers vice.
