some stuff for a knife show (multiple pics)
Hi there
I might be off to the Melbourne Knife Makers Guild Show if I get enough stuff finished on time. Here are some of the knives I have ready or close to ready. No sheaths done yet - planning on pancake style Kydex sheaths. One thing I think I need is a proper stamp - I think that would improve the look a lot. I might pay to get a leather sheath made up for a couple of the wood handle ones, leather looks better... I took 6 days off work so I should be able to get a few more finished in time (if they get back from heat treating promptly that is) - 5 more ready for heat treating almost and another couple I will do in the next day or 2 Any comments appreciated Thanks Stephen Nixon Lace Sheoak and D2, 1/8th thickness chisel ground . About 7.5 inches all up. u cant see the wood too good in the little pic bigger one at http://members.westnet.com.au/snixon/chiesal1large.jpg D2 steel again laced sheoak handle. I started to make a knife for a customer 8 years ago or more and stuffed up the hollow grind badly. Found it laying about in the shed and flat ground it. Tapered tang and ground fairly thin. Slight flaw in handle sealed with superglue and sanded back. About 9 inches long. Scothchbrite finish bigger pic so u can see the wood better http://members.westnet.com.au/snixon/dropsheoak.jpg 440C, 11.5 inches long. Western Australian Sheoak handle. Ground from 1/4 inch steel. Tapered tang balance point is a half an inch in front of the handle. Camping knife or something I guess I was just sick of grinding smaller stuff. D2 blade started out as a sheepsfoot - grinding stuff up whoops. Little bit more on the blade finish needs to be done. Micarta handle D2 blade, chisel ground phenol resin handle (not micarta but close). The hole in the handle is for the kydex sheath when I make it, something to hold it in. Almost 8 inches long. Thanks again for any comments Stephen |
