safety while HT'ing
I was just wondering if it's needed or common practice to wear Didymium safety glasses while removing the blades from the oven to the quench.... (i wear safety glasses)

No, it isn't. You need the didymium glasses for extended forging sessions where you might be staring into a forge for hours on end. Momentary exposure isn't an issue ...

I bought a pair or IR3 safety glasses from edge eyewear a month or so ago. They are light enough to see well out of but if you judge temp by color you would have to look at the steel without the glasses on. Im pretty sure they protect well from IR light and dont cost $70 like didymium. I think my IR3 were around $12.
