What is jigged bone

Well let me refrase that, Why jigged bone? I've seen it and it looks neat, but how did it come about, is it just a form of decoration, or is there a point behind it, is it supposed to imitate something?

I hope this doesn't come across as a stupid question, I just want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Jigging is simply a way to deorate bone and add some texture to an otherwise smooth surface. Sometimes, as in the case of Stag jigged bone, the jigging is done to make the cow bone appear to be a Stag scale....
