I guess I'll chime in with Craig and be called an idiot too. Nice to be thought of that way. Great way to end a discussion.

insurance rates were supposed to go down in 2012. Instead they went up 20% on average. Next year it will be closer to 30%.
We're being told one thing and seeing something much different. I wonder how many Obama voters bothered to run their numbers and see what Obamacare is going to cost them? There are going to be a lot of really upset people. A family of four with an adjusted gross income of $25k will pay $1000 per year. How many people in that income level has an extra $1000 laying around? Then run some real low income numbers and see how much it will cost. This is the largest middle class tax increase in US history. Partisanship aside, use the calculator and decide for yourself what you think of the health insurance law. Maybe you'll like it maybe you won't. My wife and I will be paying an additional $2,700 on top of the $3,600 we already pay. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...means-for-you/ Stay tuned and hang onto your wallet and checkbook. When the insurance industry was fighting ACA, they were spending 14 million dollars A DAY. They gotta get that money back somehow.
The obvious solution of course is a single payers system for everyone. Or open Medicare to everyone. Theres absolutely zero reason we can't have a better national healthcare system than Sweden or Norway. In the long term, we'd also have healthier citizens, who would in turn have more productivity. Corporations shouldn't be getting rich on human misery. If they can afford to spend 14million a day to try and stop legislation, they have a lot of money that should be being used to take care of the insured. American citizens shouldn't have to choose between feeding their family or seeing a doctor. |

You are completely ignoring the government set premiums that will kick in. AKA the largest tax increase on the middle class in US history. That will be very painful when people start getting their bill.
We can have better health care but we don't have to throw out the baby with the bathwater. Just start fixing the baby. So far we have been lied to by this administration about insurance premiums. I anticipate many more lies as this nightmare unfolds. WA State has mandatory car insurance but there are still a large number of people that won't buy it. That was supposed to bring down premiums and it didn't. That health insurance premium calculator doesn't even factor in the deadbeats that just flat won't or those that can't pay the premiums or the penalties. This isn't about debate, it's about people running their own income numbers. Being informed and warned what is going to hit them. My wife and I are already budgeting that for when it hits. How many others are? Or even have a clue what's coming? Last edited by B.Finnigan; 11-13-2012 at 08:41 PM. |

The WSJ ran an article about 4.4 billion in union membership dues supporting democratic candidates and causes. Maybe that could have put food on the table of members who were unemployed or promised pensions. Didn't congress investigate the AARP. It's the sixth largest insurance carrier in the country and is projected to profit an additional 1.4 billion selling supplemental plans to seniors. Not bad for a little corporate lobbying investment, transfer cash out of retiree cupboards to corporate coffers. ocare falls a bit short of the single payer socialized medicine that you hope for, but it will administer about a sixth of the entire US economy. Any assurance based on any other fed program in history that it will be managed responsibly. Tax the rich like the repeating story goes would run the government for what about nine days, not counting the coming ocare. The term death panel is mocked by some, but what does an APPOINTED group of fifteen folks do with resources based on feelings and opinions. Just as in europe, funding will be based on some morbidity/mortality tables. As we learn more about ocare, funding will be cut from veterans and medicare services for preferences such as 'womens reproductive' and 'gay and lesbian' health issues. As Brent has pointed out, no one has explained how Joe Average is going to pay for his out of pocket share of ocare. Also noticed is the ignoring of significant cost increases to employers. Money doesn't come out of thin air or taxpayers. It comes from making products or providing services that someone wants to pay for.....jobs, or is the plan to sit at home and complain about corporations. Hope you don't put all your eggs into this one basket. More than ever, a person will need private resources to separate from the crowd. It won't be fair or even possible to demand more services than anyone else waiting in the healthcare line. For those thinking healthcare will be free and better, my opinion, you may just get exactly what you pay for. Bank on being healthy just in case, we all get to see for ourselves just a bit down the road, Craig |

"Based on your income, your annual premiums for that plan would be no more than $6,080. Your maximum out-of-pocket costs for deductibles and co-payments would be capped at 30 percent of the total cost".
Another dirty secret you'll find out with that calculator. Last summer I had a cardiac ablation procedure. It was $60,000. With my "middle of the road" insurance I paid $1200 out of pocket total. Under Obama care it would be $18,000! So after having my ins premiums almost doubled I would still have to find $18,000. That isn't going to play well with the middle class and it will get worse with the number of people that flat can't pay the premiums or the out of pocket for care. And right now there are 8% of the people in this country that are not working and couldn't afford any premium right now. Then factor in all the other un-employed that are not part of the mix since their benefits have expired. It will be a complete nightmare. And I think about how many Obama voters assume it will be free. They think it will be paid for by rich people and evil corporations. All the people that voted for him because they see him as a cross between Santa and Robin Hood. The whole "give me-give me" crowd looking for their handouts and figuring out what victim group they should belong to. Last edited by B.Finnigan; 11-14-2012 at 09:37 AM. |
