Engraved DDR-3

This is a DDR-3 with Mammoth scales and engraved bolsters and backspine.

The engraving is of vines and leaves that originate at the bottom of the backspine, they travel up the backspine to each bolster.

I left the backspine high as it comes in the kit, the vinework is sculpted into the raised portion and travels down into each bolster from the backspine.

Hope you like the pictures.

The engraving gets washed out with the flash, I'm experimenting with outdoor light as an alternate source.

The object of engraving is to reflect light and in a way to create a picture using light as a highlighting effect. With a flash the light souce is so powerful, detail gets washed away from that refected light.

With the dark pictures you can see the detail in the engravings, I see other engravers getting past this problem using other fixed light sources.
I'm new to this so it will take some experimenting to get it right.

Thanks

Hey Metal ... that's sweet work!!!!
That's a top shelf DDR3!!!
Great job, and excellent call on the engraving. Those handles and file work demand it!

Thanks for the compliment.

Thanks for the compliments, I enjoy doing this.

I have a second DDR3 that I am working on, I'm making bolsters for this one out of silver with a planned gold wire inlay border on each.

I'm also working on some engraving of different items on this knife
Should be interesting if it comes out as planned.

Thanks again,
Metalchipper
