My Grizzly Is Dying!... i think.

I got my Grizzly about a month ago. Recently it feels like its lost alot of power. Its slows down when grinding on wood and metal. Please help me out here. I was thinking asking for a replacement motor or something of that sort. Or can it be repaired? Please help me out. Thank you.

Are you pushing hard when you grinde? Try a new sharp belt, and use less pressure. Unless you got a lemmon that grinder should last you a long time.

It shouldn't be slowing down like that. I've got mine on a powerstrip and every once in a great while when I'm bearing down hard for a long time it'll pop my strip off, but I just gotta reset and go again.

I'd contact Grizzly about it -- they are good to work with.

I agree with Jeff........Shoot it, clip it's wires, spay it, or what ever you have to do to put it out of it's misery..........then step UP to a grinder like the KMG that will last you a lifetiime!

Sounds like a rare thing to me. My grizzly works great and Ive had it for 3 months or so. I push it pretty hard. Correct me if im wrong, even if you had a KMG (Which I would love to have) you could have the same problem. The KMG may not give you problems but the motor you buy for it could....like your grizzly motor. Just bad luck it sounds like to me. I would call grizzly and chat with them about a replacement or atleast help.

Good Luck !

Shane

Oh, how those words come back to haunt us!

Don't feel bad. My wife keeps a database of everything I ever messed up, every word I ever said, every item I ever tried to slip in from a gun or knife show, etc. She can recite them - in detail - with no notice or provocation. My only defense is to point to her Imelda Marcos Starter Set of shoes and babble something about their cost and how the house is sinking on that end.

I kept checking this thread because I too have a Grizzly and it came with a macho motor. Something had to be messed up in order to have the problem you cited, although it is always possible for a motor to go bad. (Major Rule Citation: Anything mechanical can break.)

Happy grinding!

Oh, by the way, LOVE the decor' in your shop! I'm so sick of seeing these super-organized over-achiever's post pics of workshops so clean you can eat off the floor! My little place looks more like yours - a good manly mess where you can almost get tetanus from the picture!

But trust me i would never eat off the floor in that place. haha. There are piles of junk all around we are trying to clean it up but o well. lol.

I've used my Grizzly for about 8 years now. The only thing electronically wrong with it is the on/off switch. I've rebuilt it twice and it needs it a third time. The springs inside wear out. I think I outgrew it many years back, but just never upgraded. I'm finally building a new one and will be using some parts from Beaumont Metalworks. I'll be sure and have my Grizzly spayed before I set it free!
