If I only had a hammer...

... I could make another hammer.

Hmm, I already posted this down in the outpost, but this seems an appropriate place to crosspost...

I finally finished making a new hammer, well mostly, I still need to cut a slot in the handle. Started out as a two pound ball peen. I squared the face, and made it really flat other then the edges. I think this will help me leave less, or at least shallower, hammer marks. I made the ball end into an almost straight diaginal peen. I have the holes drilled for the shock resistant handle though I don't have any good tools to make the slot so I'll have to figure that out. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but I think it'll work pretty well for me.

I like it! I'm not much for straight peens, but that one looks pretty good - like I might want to make one for me!

Since no one's mentioned it, thought I'd point it even has an "AwP" logo. - Jim

Thanks for the comments. I got a chance to try it out, and it works pretty well so far for everything but heavy drawing. One problem though is that I think I tempered the face a little too soft, I tempered it to purple and it got slightly dinged up when I used it. Though better the hammer get dinged then the anvil I spose, hammers are cheaper and I could always make another .
