First Weld!
Did my first weld... check out the picture, this is it after one fold. Started with 6 layers of stuff - 3 unidentified thin strips of high carbon, kinda similar to steel banding; 1 thicker layer of file steel, forged down tot he desirable shape first, one layer of steel taken from a wood chipper blade (the outer skin you see) and one layer of the rod, scrounged from the Agency, also high-carbon. I have no idea what the contrasts are going to look like when I'm done, I'm just gonna fold this a few more times until I get a couple-hundred layers built up. Then somebody better do a maidenhair tutorial or something so I don't really mess this billet up! A keeper, for sure. |

Very nice, the more you fold the smaller the pattern gets, sanding and etching as you go along lets you know what you have. let us know what your doing with it, Thanks, Smedley |
