Here's one you won't see very often. a #3-6 with a #6 grind.

Other options include SS, NS and black micarta handle.

Former owner told me he bought new in the late 70's and it came with a JRB.

If I could buy a new one like it today, I'd buy three of them - a 5" for me, another 6" for me, and an additional 5" to give to my next good friend who wishes he could find a stout knife that cuts like a light saber Yes, the #6 grind cuts that well.

Here is is a mid-70's #3-6" that a friend of mine had been using for years. He had lost the leather sheath and was using a homemade kydex one to carry it. He laughs at guys like me that will actually buy a knife for beauty or for collection. "A knife is a tool, nothing more, nothing less."
We attended the last Blade Show together and he wanted me to see what his Randall was worth. He said that if he could trade it, due to its age for a new one, he would do it. Long story short, no one at the show trade him, due to the lack of the correct sheath, so I traded him a Harvey King hunter for it. I think that we both feel that we took the other.
The point here is that, this is what the miracle-workers at RMK can do to a knife. They not only rescued it but made it look new again. They reconditioned the knife, gave me a proper sheath and mailed it back for $85 and 4 weeks time. Now that is service!

To Shipahoymatey and others, thanks for the compliments about my photos. Having a good quality camera with macro lens capabilities is essential. In my case I use a Nikon Coolpix 995.

Also, using an image enhancing software like Photoshop Elements (which I use), allows you to preserve the size and most of the quality of the photos, while at the same time respecting the limits of forum requirements. This eliminates the annoying too large image, which forces side to side scrolling.

Here's a #3-5 that's a couple of years old. It would make a great user, but I already have my #25-5 for that purpose.

It has a stainless blade; a stag handle with finger grips; a nickle silver hilt; black, red and white spacers; thumb notches; and a compass installed in the butt.

This model 3 doesn't have the history behind it that most of the other ones posted here have but it fits my hand well and it is one of the few that I liked enough to really persue on eBay. As a matter of fact, it is one of only two that I have bought on the bay.







3-5", ss, N/S hilt, alu butt, wrist thong.

Ok Ron, This is my best hunter to show but I can't compete with yours, you have the most gorgeous collection of hunters I have ever seen. This one thing about this one, it came with a great condition Heiser 4-7 sheath, somewhere out there there's a really old #4-7 with a Heiser #3-7 sheath, maybe our paths will cross some day and we can swap.

And a beautiful old hunter it is, Brasshilt. I believe there is a high probability that the 4-7 sheath paired with it is the original sheath. 3-7 & 4-7 sheaths were virtually interchangeable: If the shop was out of 3-7 sheath and they had a 3-7 to ship, it would go out in a 4-7 sheath (and vice-versa). That is an early 50's knife and that was a lean time for the shop. Bo did not keep a very large inventory of sheaths on hand and it wasn't uncommon to run out of a particular model sheath. 3's were more popular than 4's, so 3 sheaths moved faster than 4's. If it was me, I'd rather have the "original" sheath than a "proper one". Also, compare the "curve" in your sheath to other 3-7 and 4-7 sheaths of that era: Your's has very little curve. Much less than a 4-7 sheath. In fact from your photo I can't tell any real contour difference between your sheath and a 3-7 sheath. Just because there is a number 4 on the back of the sheath, that doesn't always mean it's a Model 4 sheath pattern. There were a few dummies that worked for Heiser just like they do for just about any company past or present. "Duh, where did I put that 3 stamp? Oh well, 4 is close enough"!
