refining pitch
Hi,
I collected a few handfulls of pitch stuck to bark from trees in a park near my home, I broke what I could off but a lot of wood remained. What would be the best way to separate the pitch from the wood please? thanks, Bearman __________________ In the great mirror of time man will see reflections of error. Bearman,
Check with the guys in "The Outpost" forum. They can tell you all about it. Wait a minute. I'll redirect the thread over there for you ... |

I melt some pitch in the pitch pot, Scrap off what you can, then drop the chunks of bark in. When the pitch liquifies and runs off, fish out the bark. You'll lose a little bit, but not much.

Pitch Refinement
I've also heard (I think from Tai) that straining molten pitch through cheesecloth works well too. Just make sure it's hot enought that it won't solidify on the cloth before making it to your receiving container.
Good luck! |

You can just melt it slowly and pour it through a fine wire mesh strainer.
