Mark,
I don't know Ms. Harvey and have not seen this ax in person, so I don't know for certain how she made the end pieces. However, if it were mine I would likely carve the pointed end piece in wax and cast it. The other end could be case or simply cut from plate and finished. All this of course if the parts could be cast. If I needed damascus on the ends I would have to make them by stock removal. Hi Mark,
I know the Harvey's personally, They are Friends of Mine, And Both Master Blade Smiths.(american affiliation) Heather Does Amazing Damascus!! All There Metal Tips on wood/leather Scabbards, as well as this handle is normally formed from thin brass or copper around a template, then silver soldered on the joint, and fixed to the scabbard with either glue or small pins.
