Wooden sheath..

This is the kitchen knife I just made with the granit handle. It is for my niece who works in a sandwich shop so it had to be able to be carted back and forward to work safely so I made a wooden sheath for it.She loves peacocks so it got a feather on iy too. ;D
Cheers KIM

Very nice Kim. Like the addition of the peacock feather.
Did you line the interior?
Happy New Year!

Very nice! I love wood sheaths. Lucky niece. I would love to see a tutorial on making something similar.

Thanks guys.I did not line it as it is for use daily in a sandwich shop kitchen and will possibly getting put away wet some times so it is open both ends to let the air through to help prevent corrosion.I just felt the leather might hold the moisture. She loves peacocks so it got a feather..

You sir, surprised me. When I saw "wooden sheath" I was prepared to laugh a little. Very well done, I like it!

Makes sense Kim. Have you looked at any of Tai Goo's one-sided sheaths? Little different but good open air concept. Not as much room for embellishment.

Thanks guys for the comments I just got back from delivering the knife and my niece was very happy with the new knife. The wood in this was just some pine I was given some time ago and the insert is purple heart.
Crex I have not really seen any other wooden sheaths around so will go and have a look at the link thanks for that.
Cheers KIM

Strikingly pretty for "just some pine". My first thoughts were wide striped zebra wood.
I like the contrast in yours. Did you make your own bullet stud?
I've done several wood scabbard/sheaths over the years and usually tried to match grain patterns front to back and scabbard to handle. I have also used ivory, bone, and horn for scabbards on a lot of my miniatures. The mini's are a bit tedious...no room for error.

Wow Carl those are striking works of art very nice.I did not make a stud it was something I had in my leather work box. When the guy bought the "Pine" to me it was to put in a bow I was making him and the guy at the shop told him it was an exotic imported timber from africa but as soon as you cut it you could tell it was pine.I used it this time because it was a bit differant and pine burns nice for the art work.

I think you did very well with the pine, don't see any domestic pine around here with the black stripes in the grain...really nice look.
Those mini's are in a museum in Milano, Italy. Like making the little guys.

Thought I had pics of a couple of large (full size) daggers with wooden sheaths but can't find the disc.
