Question Drawing "scrolls"...Books? Advice?

G'Day Gents,

I have a new interest, engraving/carving hardwoods(gun stocks and grips currently). I Realy like, what I call scrolls,(maybe leaves is closer?) that is engraved on guns. But, for the life of me, I can't seem to draw it, and it look right.

Are there any books on engraving that teach the pattern style? I can't find anything for this style in carving sources.......

The style that I'm talking about;

To look at a large quantity of similar work, perhaps the Nimschke book - available as a reprint. To learn to draw them - the Ron Smith series. The two smaller (earlier) ones together - or just the newest one by itself?

Roger; That sure is a wonderful piece!

Thanks Brian, from what I can tell, the books by Ron Smith are exactly what I was looking for. I have found the new book listed for sale in a couple places, any ideas where I might find the earlier ones?

G.

Ice, www.fega.com still has More on Scrolls but not Ron's first book. I think the new book covers all you'll need.
