If there's a couple of smiths living close to one another, who could go in on it and split the costs, it would be an excellent deal. W1 is a good steel, and makes a good knife. Hard to find in flats. I usually get it in drill rod. Thanks for the "heads up," Mike.

It makes my whole body ache looking at that big pile of beautiful steel. It also makes me green with envy at the fellow that can afford it and the shipping.

There is a fellow advertising in the Island wide Buy Sell & Trade that he has a heavy anvil for sale. It is 6 feet long, from the other dimensions it comes in around 800 pounds according to Glover.
He gives no price and I have been afraid to phone.

6' long anvil

To weight *only* 800# and be 6' long it pretty much has to be made from a chunk of RR rail or I beam. I'd ask for details!

From my records:

200# anvil 21" long

340# anvil "almost 35" long"

396# Hay Buden 35.5" long

408# 38.5"

450# 36.5" (fisher)

900# 47" long

Bog Iron who's owned a couple of the above anvils

Re: 6' long anvil

I just relooked at the ad. The steel is 72 inches long by 3.5 by 12 . According to my Glovers 3 by 6 weighs in at 61.2 pounds And .5 by 6 at 10.2 pounds per foot. My admittedly poor math gives me 792 pounds.

I am more than willing to be shown where I am wrong.

Yup, I just re-read my first post. Sometimes it is hard tp belive that Canadian is my first and only language. Sorry Bog Iron, I obviously neglected to tell the whole story. Thjis guy is advertising an "extremly heavy flat anvil" with the above dimensions.

ghostdog the chagrined.

Bog Iron....

Are you talking total length. My Trenton is 28" long and stampted 150. Do you know anything about the serial numbers on them? Ray
