Hello Roger.

Anders!
It's good to hear about a show so close to me! Can You tell more about SKMG? In the website, there is not much information. As far as I know - all scandinavian countrys have their own guild. Is this an attempt to unite all skandinavian knivmakars? Here, in Estonia, we don't have any knifemakers society. So I feel a bit lonely here as a knifemaker and have to travel to Finland to communicate with other makers I had a good time in Fiskars this year and hope I can make it to Stockholm too(unfortunately as a tourist only )! __________________ T?nu Arrak |

Hi tonn.
The SKMG is a Guild uniting the knifemakers who makes both blade and handle on the knife. The "scandinavian way" of making knives is usually buying a blade from a bladesmith and then making a handle for it. The SKMG wants to promote and encourage knifemakers to develope their own style and also to have a more artisitic form in the shaping of the knife. The scandinavian knives has, as we see it, got stuck in the form of the puukko, brukskniv and tollekniv, i.e. the scandinavian utility knife. The different scandinavian knifeorganisations are somewhat "old-fashioned", they want the knives to look as they always have and don't always like new ideas. I don't say that all knifemakers are like this but this seems to be the general opinion in scandinavia. This is something we want to change by creating the SKMG, to help and inspire one another. If you may be interested in joining the Guild, please let me know. New members are always welcome. (I hope that this reading wasn't so dull and boring that you fell asleep?) Looking forward to see you in Stockholm! Anders |

Thanks for the answer, Anders!
Reading You post is like reading my own mind! Tough there is many ways to make a knife, most regarded by me is makers who do it all - from blade to sheath. What comes to "old-fashioned" organisations - preserving the old traditions, they need to be a bit of conservative! But that is not enough - preserving and development must go hand in hand and traditions can be a great source of inspiration! About joining - at least I am interested! More than any formal membership I like to see a community of people with same interests. Still awake __________________ T?nu Arrak |

Hi tonn.
I'm glad to hear that you like the guild and I do agree with you about traditions is a great source of inspiration. The best part with a show is not the daytime in the showroom, it is in the evening when you discuss knives, knives and more knives Here are some of my knives and scrimshaw from my woman. www.scrimart.u.se Anders |
