Hey Andrew!
I do alot of cord wrapped handles as well, I think they work great on practical/tactical type knives where grip retention, cost, weight, might be factors. The only thing I dont like is that in my mind a cord wrapped handle is not as durable over time as say a micarta scales , and if not done properly can wick moisture to the tang.
Here is a link to how to from strider knives,http://www.striderknives.com/html/handlewrapping.html , I dont usually use this type unless tyhe customer wants to be able to remove the cord.
There is also a good tutorial on Tsukamaki floating around but I can't seem to find it at the moment.
