One week away!
The Guild Show will be in Kentucky for the first time at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel in downtown Louisville. This is going to be a good one folks. We have 135 tables of handmade custom knifemakers who are bringing some incredible stuff to show and sell. There will be door prizes, awards, seminars and drawings for custom knives.
The Presidents Gala for Honorary members is going to be great at this new venue on Thursday evening. If anyone is interested in becoming an honorary member of the Guild contact me. Benefits include tickets to the Gala, early admission to the show before it opens to the public, newsletter, and a few other perks.
Come on out. Louisville is more convienent to get to than anyplace the Guild show has been in recent history. We have a major airport 15 minutes from the show and easy Interstate access via I-65 from the north and south, I-71 from the northeast and I-64 from the east and west.
In addition, Louisville is a great place to visit with lots of other things to do and see. The show is within walking distance of the Frazier Historic Arms museum with a great collection including hundreds of items on loan from the Royal Armory in the Tower of London. For baseball fans the Hillerich & Bradsby "Louisville Slugger" factory and basball museum is a few blocks away as is our waterfront park on the Ohio river and the oldest operting authentic sternwheel steamboat The Belle of Louisville.
The Seelbach itself is a wonderful and elegant historic hotel. It has just completed a $45M renovation with all of the rooms furnished with authentic period antiques mixed with modern conveniences like flat screen TVs. This hotel was frequented by Al Capone back in the day and even has secret doorways and passages so he could escape when necessary. The hotel was the inspiration and backdrop for F Scott Fitgerald's "The Great Gatbsy" and it was the location where the pool hall scenes were filmed for "The Hustler" with Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason. The basement houses the Rathskellar room which has the only surviving Rookwood pottery decor in the world along with a handcarved leather ceiling.
Just outside the hotel is Louisville's "Fourth Street Live" which has numerous restaurants, clubs, and live entertainmment.
