Third finished knife....
Okay guys here's the third knife I've finished. It's a skinner made from 1080 steel with a whitetail antler handle and a brass ferrule. It turned out okay for being the scrap left over from another knife.
Some criticism I've received is that the blade is too short for the handle and I get it. I just didn't have a long enough piece of steel to fit the blade to the handle. It was fun making it though. Any constructive criticism is appreciated. Edit: Also forgot to mention this is my first hidden tang knife and my first time working with bone. __________________ -Hunter Last edited by Hunter10139; 12-17-2013 at 01:25 PM. I like that you're putting some grind lines on there instead of a full flat grind. Grind lines scare most beginners. I can't really see the blade but I get the impression that it might not be ground as thin as it should be but I could be wrong about that. The blade should be ground until the edge is about .020 thick or even a bit less on a knife that small.......

Yeah I'm not a great picture taker, any tips on that are helpful too. The blade is pretty thin and I was able to get it scary sharp with my lansky. I'll test it out when I can on a deer and see how it turns out.
Also, I've wanted to do grind lines since I started, I just haven't been successful until now. I like their looks a LOT better than a flat grind. __________________ -Hunter |
