Hey Blade, how's about a picture of the tool/carving knife you're using in Wiily go 'round in circles

These are the little home made palm chisels I use.

This is already a beautiful knife, Tai... Extremely elegant yet powerful. I dig it! Is it a commission?

Thanks. Here's a pic of the handle so far. I still need to polish the wood up, and make the butt piece.

Here's a detail of the wootz blade.

No, it's not a commission. It's just something I wanted to make. It's up for grabs. Wouldn't it be great if I could sell it before it's done! taigoo@msn.com

Excellent. Nice detail of the blade. Thanks for showing your carving knives too. What steel are they made from? I've got a buddy who's a wood carver. He got me to make him a carving knife for back cutting (the whole piece--blade and handle are sort of S shaped--a German design, I'm told.) I made it form W1. That was over a year ago. He said he uses it all the time, and hasn't brought it back for sharpening yet.

Thanks Dana. I made the tanged ones out of concrete nails, and the socketed one out of 5160. A higher carbon steel might have been better, but they work fine with the steels I used. These are the same tools I used to carve out the top of the silver guard.

Beautiful work Tai. That blade really rocks my world! Those palm chisels are cool too.

Thanks Max. I had a tough time with that blade. It's my first wootz, a struggle from the get go. It was a great challenge for me, and it turned out O.K.

This one shows the way the back of the handle is prepared to recieve the butt piece. The butt will screw down over the shoulder that I carved into the wood.
