Soon to be my knife.
I just wanted to post a few pictures of the progress that is being made in a knife that I am having made by Gib Guignard and Chuck Burrows. It is based on their Cactus Rose 2 which I liked very much. I wanted my knife to have a wrought iron guard, sharpened clip and less filework.
Here are three pictures showing the progress so far: I will post more photos as I receive them. __________________ Avatar is my Wild Goo. Last edited by Chuck Burrows; 10-29-2004 at 03:36 PM. |

Well two surprises in less than 12 hours! Wish the etch on the WI showed up better - it's different than I though and very nice.
Oh my other surprise - I got this email from that grand old master Lloyd Hale now - "Hey Chuck....I'll send you a couple of pictures of some frontier knives I made some years back....I would love to do a Bowie and have you do the sheath...... Lloyd Mike can you tell I'm one stoked dude! If you haven't seen the pics of Lloyd's last piece for his mentor than do it's - well words elude me - it's in the Display Case check it out. __________________ Chuck Burrows Hand Crafted Leather & Frontier Knives dba Wild Rose Trading Co Durango, CO chuck@wrtcleather.com www.wrtcleather.com The beautiful sheaths created for storing the knife elevate the knife one step higher. I saw several of Mr Hale's pics, both in Display case and the Fune Embelishments. I'd love o see larger picsof the bowies displayed in the bottom pic of the Display thread -- wonderful pieces !
And yes, I do see how you could get STOKED. Like, 18 feet, offshore wind, perfect shape, Seventh Wave -- STOKED Mike __________________ Trying to become the kind of man my dog thinks I am http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft...E4E363B}&tio=0 |

Chuck and Gib have a great thing going with their collaborations.
I know you are going to be very happy with the final product. BTW, thanks again for pointing me at Chuck. He's putting together something for me that I will share. Sometime after the 1st of the year. Jack C. |

This is a great looking knife! I was wondering about the finish on the blade. Is that an etch? Or is it left as heat-treated? Or something else?

Stormcrow - the spine is left with a forge finish by Gib and then I do a chlorine bleach etch. Bleach is a very aggressive etch so go slow.
For more info go here http://knifenetwork.com/forum/showth...328#post118328 and scroll down to my second post. __________________ Chuck Burrows Hand Crafted Leather & Frontier Knives dba Wild Rose Trading Co Durango, CO chuck@wrtcleather.com www.wrtcleather.com The beautiful sheaths created for storing the knife elevate the knife one step higher. Chuck, have you tried the chlorine etch on a file finish? Hmmm, wondering if I should try this on my octagonal sword....

Stormcrow- It will work just fine - Gib's blades on the "shiny" parts are around a 320 grit finish.
Here's a draw filed finish 1095 blade - note I didn't etch as vigorously - two or 3 - 5 minute dips: Here's a toothpick 5160 blade with a hand rubbed 400 (or 600?)finish done with again two or three - 5 minutes dips: __________________ Chuck Burrows Hand Crafted Leather & Frontier Knives dba Wild Rose Trading Co Durango, CO chuck@wrtcleather.com www.wrtcleather.com The beautiful sheaths created for storing the knife elevate the knife one step higher. Thanks for the tip, Chuck. Won't have time to do it on my octagonal sword, but it's definately another card up my short sleeve.
