I still need to make the scabbard and wrap it up with hemp. I think I'm going to try a shoulder strap with a belt loop, so you can wear it either way. It's a spear point or a dagger with a razor edge. I tried it chopping and it chops good too. The blade is real thin, just about 1/8th at the thickest point.

It's 11 and 1/4 inches. I started with some 1 and 1/2 by 3/8ths 1065.

Thank you Dana. I was wracking my brain trying to remember that smatchet moniker.
I got to meet Col Applegate many years ago. A very interesting fella to say the least. He was a man who really had experienced doing battle with a blade.

New Bushy

That';s great Tai. Did you use the resin/pitch on the wrapping? It looks like it has been slickered up a bit.

Hey thanks guys. I sealed it up with natural pinon rosin varnish. I just dissolve the rosin in alcohol and brush it on. It's still a bit tacky in the pic. It's dry now though. It works great on the cordage. It makes it hard and waterproof, but still has a little give and flex to it. It actually bleeds through the wrapping and glues it to the hanlde.

I ordered some rattan from a basket weaving supplier online last night and want to give it try on the wrapping.
