Thumbs up Photo Contest #70 - 'Beginner's Luck' :)

Hi Folks,

Our last contest was advanced in theme. It's good to see some of the best work hard at something, press the boundaries, and think 'out of the box'.

But not this time. I propose a contest for anyone to enter, with the qualifier that you cannot have won this contest in the past. (You do not have to be a 'beginner', but this had a catchy title... )

'Back to basics'

Here's what I'd like to see:

Single image of folder or fixed-blade. (no photoshop insets)
Work on good lighting. We have discussed this often and it is the basis of a fine photograph. Good lighting may also include shadows to show depth, blade grinds and textures. Outdoor lighting is perfectly acceptable.

Any knife image and format that you feel is crisp and clear. Do not try to overdramatize your image with many props. I want to see the knife as the star of the show. Utilize any background or props that will make your knife look like the main subject.

Once we get five images posted in the Photo Contest Gallery by a sunday evening, with the title 'Photo Contest #70 - xxxx' (X: your forum name) we will begin the voting.

Give a brief description of your methods to shoot the knife, and let's give you newer folks a chance to work with your peers--not against the pros.

Thanks!

Coop

I am impressed with the quality of the entries so far ((3) in two weeks notice), but I am awaiting the required number of entries.

How about it???! Two more entries!

Picture coming. I've been trying to wait for a knife to arive in the mail, but if it doesn't arrive tomorrow, I'll use a backup.

For a knifemaker, I have very few knives.

I think we are honing in on a contest. I sent a note to Romano to see which one of his two entries he'd like to submit. We have (4) official entries, his will make five and there is another maker who couldn't post a photo, and I will try to help him out if he gets back to me.
