It's the fall position that matters. You want the spring to return level with the liners when it's all the way open and closed. That's what people see when they look at the knife. |

Sure Don!
The swaybacks were done when we started to study slipjoints. He, together with Luciano Dornles and Rodrigo Sfreddo are the top three in Brazil, IMHO. |

Wow!! Fantastico, as someone might say in Spanish. I don't know how fantastic translates to Portuguese though.
I like red stag jigged bone, but can't find any more. I see those 3 folders all have the same angle on the back of the tang like your design. Now that you're making your own designs they'll keep you busy. Has Romano seen this thread? If so, ask him what I'm doing wrong. |

Victor, how is the spring tensioned without a 3rd. pin showing in the back end? Using the lanyard tube?
Or is the pin hidden under the scales? |

Portuguese and Spanish are very much alike, don?t know why but we can understand them but they don?t understand us..... Fantastico is also for Portuguese, the matter of facts that almost every word you said in Spanish was just like in Portuguese, that?s why I told you the other day that you?re Portuguese was good!.... When I see something interesting on the SBC forum, if I read really fast I can usually follow the dialog.
Great knifemakers there. Not many folders, though. |

To you Don, Mike Victor and the rest of the lot of you who take the time to respond to these things /cheers mates I thank you for all that you do...
Round 2 ding.. and please dont be gentle I think I can take a punch...now So where do we start. Well first we squared things up a little better. Its amazing the blade tip came back from the spring the edges now lined up as I made the notch deep enough for it to sit on. Looking at the original plans the kicks on mine were way more rounded and I had plenty of room to start working. So I started on setting the rise and fall. Full open mark the edge of the spring.. Half mark where it was at.. Hmm found it a little difficult to see when I got close exactly how close I was getting to hitting the same line. Sooooo i placed a white peice of paper on the plate.. I marked an aligning mark at the lower right to make sure the transparanceis will line up.. Ill get to that in a minute. in the right corner I wrote full open. Then Marked a line for where the spring full open is. So the gap here between the knife and the spring is because i dont have any pressure on the spring So then I took the blade off and placed a peice of transparacy of the paper and placed the knife back on the pins and after applying pressure to the rear of the spring, maker a line for 50% closed. I also lined up the alignment cross and wrote 50% in the upper right. Finnaly I added a final layer of transparacy and assembled at put the blade full closed with the little pressure to the back of the spring and marked So in theory if it looks like 1 sharpie mark im there right ?? I think its there if not really close ? Again please point things out and thanks again for your feedback James __________________ It's a passion, plain and simple! Looking good now, James.
Try inking the area on your plate and use the point of an ice pick to scribe a line on top of the backspring if you don't have a scriber. That may get you a little closer. By the way, I'm glad you feel better about the critiques. No questions, no answers, no learnie. Learning is what we're doing here. It's too bad some of the other people aren't participating. |

So Things may be moving in the right direction Don ?
Do you think I still need to make a new spring and raise the hole up some towards the spine? I know I still have the liner hurdle up ahead. My next one.. Yes I fully plan on making more will have the holes drilled all at once. __________________ It's a passion, plain and simple! Last edited by lpspurgeon; 05-28-2009 at 08:51 AM. |
