Not the old rig for this one, one of the later strip boxes. Mainly for bottle shots for the gradient. It does ok for knives and the silver lining dials up the contrast a bit more.

Some playing around to see what various lighting placement does. This is a three light shot. Easy to do composites though for me the challenge is to get it in one take so that post processing is simplified.

Affordable, easy to keep sharp and if lost damaged one doesn't feel to bad. This was shot using the old rig. Much softer lighting unlike the above.

It does look like a burl at that image size.
This is a bit closer up view :


G-10 seems more prominent from the suppliers I buy from. I haven't seen much Micarta since the mid-late 90's. I bought sheets of various Micarta scrap and thought in the day it was pricey. Carbon fiber hurts to buy these days.
