5160H

Hi Ed
I saw a post on another forum about problems you were having with inclusions in 5160. Jerry Fisk wrote he had switched to 5160H and had experienced no inclusion problems.
Could you tell me the difference in the two steels and where I can locate some?
Thanks
Scott

5160H

Hi Scott!

The only answer I can get on the "H" is that it's hot rolled......but there again, all of the 5160 I know of is hot rolled. I did find one bit of info that refers to 5160H as having tighter tolerances for element content than 5160 that is not designated with the "H". As I find more info, I'll post it.
You might try emailing Jerry........I'm sure he would have the complete answer.

I had posted the question on another forum but was unsure if it was still up and running because the last post on it was 12/16/00. Jerry replied and said that 5160H is 5160 that has been inspected and tested to prevent inclusions and flaws. It also comes with a spec sheet that tells the amount of elements in it. It seems to be 5160 with guaranteed consistency.
Thanks
Scott

Jerry Fisk advised it was available from Admiral Steel. It may be available from other steel suppliers also. 5160H is not listed in the Admiral Knife Steel catalog. They may have info on their web site. I plan on calling them on Mon. to check prices. If you don't have any luck I will post what I find out Monday night.
Hope this helps
Scott
