Angry How do you Heat treat 0.060 thick ATS??

What procedure are you using the heat treat 0.060 thick ATS-34?? My quench blocks are warping a lot of blades and the hollow grind is wavy as well. tomorrow I'm going re heat treat to try and straigthen them out. i left 0.020 thick on the hollow grind, but these are kitchen choppers and not well supported cutting edge. i'm trying the get that top quench plate on as soon as the blade makes contact with the bottom plate. i may just go to an air quench maybe with a fan cause this warpage is annoying, and i sure want to make kitchen knives. thanks,

I don't do any grinding on material that thin until it is heat treated. I do the blank and grind it in the hardened state. New belts, dip in water on each pass , and it will be okay.

You'll likely get just as much, or more warpage air quenching on that thin material. I also never grind anything thinner than 1/8" until AFTER it's heat treated....solves a LOT of headaches.

YEP, Perfect Results

Went out to the garage and did everything but the hollow grind; heat treated the little bugger and got perfect results! Broke out the handy dandy hardness tester and it reads 62+ so it took a serious quench. what i did this time is quenched in the plates for a minute took it out of the foil, flipped the quench plate and carefully place it back between the plates for another 5 minutes. Mucho thanks to All, Tomorrow I'll try another one with the same set up, look out!
