Reusing H/T foil?
I'm just getting started cooking my own SS blades. I was wondering if H/T foil can be reused? Thought I would ask before I ruin a blade.

I'm not exactly sure what the pro's will say about it but I do. someone in another post said that they had been reusing it so I tried it and it seem to work fine. I just wish I would have started before my roll was about gone. Just inspect before each heat treat and make sure there are no holes in it. If there are get a new piece. Hope this helps!

Mine gets so black and brittle I couldn't reuse it if I wanted to.

I agree with Andy, I've never considered reusing it, so I haven't inspected closely, but it seems far more brittle after the first go round. Heat treating is not the place to save pennies, in my opinion.

At high temps for stainless blades I reuse once. At carbon steel temps I use the pouches up to four times. Never had any problems.

I have saved a long pouch and re-used it if I could fit a smaller knife in and re-seal the end with fresh folds on the end I opened previously. So far two uses is usually all I can get out of it.
