Why not ask your sheath questions over in the Sheathmaking forum? Some of the best leathercrafters in the world hang their hat over there, including myself, and we're nice guys too! You also get good critques on how to make improvements by real pro makers whihc inlude Paul Long, Dave Cole, Sandy Morrisey and several others.
Also at the top of that forum there are several stickies that should be of interest to anyone making sheaths. To answer your question you need to use a topcoat to get a polished finish. although even with an oil finish you can burnish and get a nice satin polish - to burnish use a piece of denim or similar or a piece of smoothed antler and rub hard: There are several choices, my own favorite is Fibings Bag Kote or Tan Kote, but there are also several acrylic types such as Resolene or Super Shene. Ths simplest is to use shoe polish, neutral or colored, but it's not particularly weather resistant. __________________ Chuck Burrows Hand Crafted Leather & Frontier Knives dba Wild Rose Trading Co Durango, CO chuck@wrtcleather.com www.wrtcleather.com The beautiful sheaths created for storing the knife elevate the knife one step higher.
