Thanks for the help Hammerdownnow, It took me a while to figure it all out, but got it set right.

I found the information on the Huber Bowie, it is owned by Dr. Tom Stapleton. He did a lot of research on the knife and I tend to agree with his findings. Rezin and Jim Bowie went to Phiadelphia to see an eye doctor. While there they located a knifemaker to provide knives for the 'Texas Troopers'. It would have had to be an outfit with fairly large production capability. According to Dr Stapleton they contacted the "J. English and Hubers" outfit also known as the "Sheffield Works".

The knife that Dr. Stapleton own once belonged to kMr. Norton Asner, who sold it to Dr. Jim Lucie, who sold it to Dr. Stapleton. The inormation is extensive and if anyone is interested in the material I will have some copies made and mail them to you. Just maybe someone who knows computer stuff a little better could post it for all to read.

For those who seek to know the truth about the Bowies of fame, this information is vital. There are many who dispute what Dr. Stapleton's research reveals. Don't Let the 'experts' mislead you, to me this is the only knife of the era that would have been of interest to a man who knew what he was doing with a knife. It is the most practical, functional, and could have been available to many in the Texas Volunteers. No other knife has this distinction.

All facts point in this direction, English knew what he was doing, knew what a knife needed to be and had the facilities to make them in volume.

I give a lot of thanks to Hammerdown for making this information available.

My pleasure Ed. I thought it would strike up more of a conversation than it did. There seemed to be quite a few here on CKD interested in Bowie history. Digging around a stirring up some stink can lead to interesting revelations. That one Huber's we found is a good example.

I noticed there was no link to the English Hubers post when I responded to the post by Shakudo asking for a date on theSearles bowie knife. While checking my facts after the fact this thread came up. The two threads were together but got separated. I thought they should be linked together. The beautiful pics and the text you provided make it a great thread. Hopefully more info will come to light as time goes on.

To add some drool factor to this post, check out this Rose of New York Bowie and the copy Harvey Dean made of it.

Apparently, members of TKN still exist after death. Should probably be some sort of way to send old posts to a final resting place, too.

I head once that Jim Bowie used his knife as a paddle to get away from some Indians with their one canoe.
