Finally got my anvil refinished
Last week I took my anvil with me to Jim Clow's, and had a local machine shop resurface it. They did a great job, while only removing about .100"! Best $175 I've every spent!
Of course there were a few swirl marks and such, but yesterday I got busy, and went over it with 400, 600, 1200, then took the rubbing, and then the polishing compound to her.... NOW, she's ready for use! I hope I'M the first one who puts a "ding" in it....otherwise I might have to hurt someone! __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." Ha, you got it done. That must be flat, nice mirror. First ding is gonna hurt. No more hunting, but that looks like a good table to clean fish on.
Take care, Craig |

Did they finish the Horn also or did you polish it? How was that done?

Refinishing an Anvil is almost as fun as making Knives.

Nice job! So shiny that you'll be able to see both sides of the blade at the same time.
How did they machine the anvil face? Did they mill it flat with a fly cutter or use a surface grinder? |

Milled it with a shell face mill (6 inserts if I remember correctly). Did it under coolant, and it only had very vague swirl marks when they were done.
