I've been experimenting a little bit on some scrap steel, but so far the patterns I've tried, while looking nice, don't actually add a lot of extra grip compared to just plain toothy (not sure what the proper term would be) jimping. If someone has come across a pattern they have found works well in wet conditions I would be very interested/appreciative if you could share your ideas.

I read on some forum a while back a debate on jimping. The argument was jimping isn't really needed, especially "gnarly" jimping. Reason being, if you are using a knife in such a way that jimping is needed, it probably needs to be slight or none at all, as rough jimping will blister the thumb and be counterproductive.... or something like that.

Anyway, I hope you can see this. I use a chainsaw file and do an alternating pattern that is functional IMO as well as decorative, without getting all crazy with vine patterns etc.

I've done a fair amount of vine file work. It's pretty but I don't find it particularly beneficial where grip is concerned...
