Mesquite Finishing

Picked up some Black Mesquite this week. (Woodcraft has it 20% off)

Any finishing tips? Does it need to be stabilized?

It stabilizes well but does not have to be.It's very stable on its own.Ifinish with 6-7 coats of Watco Danish oil.and buff.

mesquite is one of the hardwoods that is too dense to soak up much of anything. It's really stable as Stan says. Doesn't need stabilizing.

I just put on a heavy coat of automotive paste wax and buff it in. The heat from buffing melts the wax into the surface.

Hi, Stan.
