Shipping to Canada

I know I saw it somewhere here, but I can`t seem to find the thread on shipping a knife to Canada. Could one of you fine people put me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance

The easiest rules to know are:
No auto's, no bali's, if ivory, it has to be ancient, and the buyer should clear it with customs, on the description, mark 'hand made cutlery.'

Remeber that the buyer has to pay for the declared value as well.

If there is anything else, and we can't figure it out here, I have friends that work for customs and we should be able to get you an answer.

Tighten pivots right down on folders. That's the current major issue.

Shipping with a courier company costs the reciever an extra $30 for customs clearance, Canada Post if they charge a brokerage is $5. If it contains ivory in any form expect it to take forever to clear. The best approach I have found is to eithe not put the ivory in the description or to just describe it as "mammoth" and leave off the word ivory.

Thanks for the info--I am sending my wood supplier a Puukko style knife , that has handles made of some of his wood.I am giving this as a gift , so I didn`t know how to send it, or how to declare the value. Any further help would also be appreciated. Could I just mark it "Puukko gift" no value ---I would send it Global Priority mail more than likely.
Thanks in Advance

Mark it as Cutlery, or hand made cutlery. if you mark it as puuko, I almost garauntee that it will be opened, because the average person doesn't know what a puuko is. Mark off the little box that says gift, and put it at the lower end of the value that you would normally sell for. Some times we have to pay on the value of the gift, but not always, I wonder what's up with that, but that could be a whole 'nother thread!

Anything else, just ask.

Trenton
