Question on "Natchez" bowie
Dear Ed, I'm in process of building a custom order "Natchez" style bowie and was wondering about the "wedge" or "one sided" grind on the top of the blade. I don't know if you would call this a "false edge" or not but my question is this: Did this grind extend completely from the top of the right side down toward the left, sort of like the grind on a lawnmower blade? Was this sharpened or left slightly dull? In pictures it only shows the left side where the grind is mostly visible. I'm trying to build this as close to "period style" as possible. Thanks! Jon

Jon
I have a large blueprint that was sent to me from someone on another forum. When I go out to shop I will take a pic of it and send to you. Jim. |

Jon I'm not sure about this particular knife but I have seen false edges done both ways two sided grinds and one sided grinds. I would suggest you explain this to the customer and ask them what there preference would be, that way he will not be surprised and possibly disappointed, and it gives them a feeling of participation and investment in the project. Hope this is of some help Jon.

Thanks Jim,, I have the knife nearly done, the customer has seen it and loves it! I did the grind one-sided as he wished. I'll post a picture when it's done! Jon
