WTB: Knives by G.W. Stone
Always looking for knives marked STONE by G.W. Stone. I might even have a few extra if you are interested. If you need info on a Stone that you have, I have the Stone shop production/serial number records and would be happy to share information. I always enjoy hearing about them and their whereabouts.

A very great thread mine but on the odd chance you are still contactable the Stone knives are being discussed elsewhere and we would be keen to get hold of the serial numbers listings etc.

GW Stone knives
Wondering if Scott Somers still frequents this blog? I have a GW Stone knife I'd love some info on. When I was in high school Mr Stone befriended me and I worked in his shop in Richardson Texas - a little storefront off Floyd rd near Spring Valley. I cleaned up the shop and he taught me all about knife making, steel, how to use various machine tools, etc. A GREAT guy. Quite a salesman as I recall. He used to bang his knives into various hard objects and then cut newspaper with them as a demo.
Anyway, one day I was cleaning up the metal filings in his shop and he presented me with a knife he made for me. It was a skinner type non-folding of a type he knew I'd admired. I've never once used it. It is marked "Stone" on one side. It has no serial number, or any other markings except for a stamped "SG" in the back of the leather scabbard. I believe this would have been in 1967-68. I'd love to know more about him. I remember him as quiet a character and unquestionably knowledgeable about various steels, and obviously knife making. I have always remembered him for taking a dumb 14 yr old in off the street and befriending me. I spent a couple of years frequenting his shop. Very very nice man. |

G.W. Stone
A friend gave my son a knife made by stone the S/N on the knife and sheath is G154. I was interested in when it was made and how much it may be worth.
It is even more interesting to me since I was taught by Ralph Bone back in 1976-1978 at Colorado School of Trades for Gunsmithing. He was quite the craftsman and artist and spoke of G.W. Stone. It seem both Stone and Bone were instrumental in the establishment of the knife makers guild. Anything you can tell me would be appreciated. |

Scott, I have misplaced my records. I am sure I will find them but not sure when. First, I have the 6 inch fixed blade Stone SN: A135 that you sold me. Thank you again. I am still looking for the 4 inch that I believe was stolen from me years ago with SN:A107 (I think). It disappeared from a motel room near Petersburg, VA. Can you confirm that I am looking for A107 and not A105 (poor memory). How many of his knives are accounted for? I still love my Stone. It was perfect for my needs. What do used, not unused, Stones go for now? I am almost 70 now, no kids, do you want a really great deal on my Stone when I no longer need it? Thanks again.
