How do I protect the finish of my damascus?
I recently re-handled an EKA SWEDEN 60 with new brass liners and new Damascus scales. My Ferric chloride had copper in its mix, and therefore deposited on to the Damascus. I'm really digging the look of how it contrasts, but am concerned about how easily the copper is rubbed off with future use. Is there a particular clear coating that someone could recommend me to protect the finish? I've tried googling it, but haven't got anything concrete. Thank you.

What damascus mix? Is it heat treated? The copper will provide some resistance yet depending how deep an etch, that may pose other considerations on potential rust.
I use a silicone impregnated cloth. Will likely require regular care when used daily with more attention in humid and wet conditions. That's been my experience. Congrats on the rehandle job. Rewarding to fix them up like this. __________________ Mike |

Not sure about the overcoating, but the copper patina from etching in acid with copper is very thin and not durable. I wonder if GunKote would work for this? https://shop.kgcoatings.com/kg/
