Castable refractory
Want to get away from k-wool in my propane forges. 1) What brand/name of castable are people using? 2) Company name & phone number where it is purchased. Email information to: BlacksmithRick@aol.com Thanks |

I have a local source here in Ft. Worth,TX. Q-Tran 1334 E.4th St. Ft. Worth,TX 76104 817 870 1855 They have many different grades. Just tell them what temps you want to reach. Hope it helps. |

Geno, How thick would you pour the walls? Say 2 inches? I use a 10 inch pipe with 1 inch k-wool giving me a 8 inch working forge. To maintain an 8 inch forge I will need to get a larger diameter pipe if the castable needs to be thicker than 1 inch. Thanks |

Rick, I don't like the wool and don't use it. Mine is solid refractory.It takes a few minutes longer to get hot, but then it just cooks perfectly.No mess or fuss. The walls on mine are about 2" thick.(MORE than enough) |
