North Carolina Knife Maker James M Wade

Hello all,
I am trying to locate a N.C knife maker James M Wade. His last known address was Rt#1 Box 56 Wade North Carolina 28395. The phone # now belongs to a different gentleman and I have drawn a blank locating this craftsman. Any help would certainly be appreciated. I am attaching a picture of one of his knives, the brass has turned over the years but you can still see the quality of this mans work. Any help, direction, or articles regarding Mr Wade would again be appreciated. Thanks in advance and God bless. r.cordell

Tried to post picture but????????? Again any help would be appreciated. r.cordell

I remember seeing this maker at the Raleigh Gun Show (at the Fairgrounds) quite a few times. He does fantastic work, very clean. Not sure if he still sets up there or not. Might be worth a look, though.

Wade Knife

Andy & Barry,
Thanks again for all your help with finding Mr Wade! When I wrote down the telephone # I wrote down 918 instead of 910!!!!!!! It is heck getting senile!!!!!!!!

Anyway I called James today and left a message, unfortunately he returned the call after I left home for a political rally. The good part is he wants to talk with me about the knife and who knows maybe another one!!!! Thanks again for all the help, and God bless. r.cordell

Myers Wade is a very fine Knifemaker and have known him for about...

30 years. He was a machinist with Black & Decker until the plant here in Fayetteville closed. He was inspired by his co-worker, John Wagaman, who lived in Fayettevile, and now retired, living in Selma, NC where he operates the "Railroad Antique Shop".

John & Myers inspired & assisted about a dozen knifemakers getting started in the Fayetteville region. They were especially helpful to servicemen stationed at Fort Bragg over the decades.

Among the soldier/knifemakers were the late MSG Bob Horrigan, whose twin brother, John,(TX), still continues to show at the Blade Show, Gary Wheeler, MSG RET, now hooked up with Kim Breed near Ft Campbell; Jerry Firebaugh, 3rd SFG(A)Gulf War I, & Bob Howes, CPT USA.

Myers Wade & John Wagaman have been instrumental in keeping custom knifemaking going in NC. They are not alone in this, but they worked with me and I am proud to be a small part of their success, selling their knives in my old store from 1972 to 1999.
