thanks for your comments and suggestions, especially the referral to mr. crawford's tutorial. i learned a good bit there. by the way, i've discovered that i was bending the spring in the wrong place. i know it will need hardening, but at least i got the 'snap' i wanted. thanks again,walker (takin' a few steps now)
