Since we have an axe for the tough stuff and a "hunter" for more precision work, I'd go for something with more tip strength and a straighter blade. That probably brings us to something with a ST/NST (spearpoint) grind.

I'll take mine in a #5-5 for ease of carry.

Azgator and everyone else,
I am back from an 8-day road trip! (Gator: Your Randall will be shipped tomorrow). A lot of good ideas here on this thread, so far. I'll start putting together another part in this series, as soon as the moderators tally us up, so far!! Best for now, Captain Chris Stanaback

Results are in!

Hi Cap et al!

I've tallied up the results and despite the indecisiveness of some participants, we have have a winning model and blade length.

It's a Model #5 by a nose, with a 5" blade.

One thing, do we all agree to go with the sharpened top bevel? It sounds like a good idea.

We're ready for the next phase to begin whenever you're able, Cap!

Cheers!

Moosehead

Hello everyone!

This is a great idea for a thread. Sorry that I missed the first phase. I would have thrown my (considerable) weight behind the #4-6, 6-9 grind. I like that idea a lot. Honestly, I had never thought of that particular configuration and that is the whole point of this exercise, isn't it? To get the creative juices flowing?

I hope that no one minds me jumping in here in the middle of the game.

Gary,

I thought so also, that's why I ordered one a while back. It should be here some time late next year. I look forward to getting it. Take care.
