Black handle/brown blade

Hey guys;
Just finished this one up. It is 3/16" L6 black linen micarta handle and browned blade. 10" OAL with 4 1/4" cutting edge. Kydex sheath with belt loop. Let me know what you think.
love it or hate it.

Interesting combination. Personally I think the browned blade would be a good idea on a reproduction rifleman's knife, or something similar from the French and Indian War.

I guess the color combinations don't bother me, but it took me a while to figure out what did. I think, for me, the lines from handle to blade just don't flow. The extra long ricasso with the finger notch is what interupts the lines, though I think if I held the knife and was using it those ideas would probably go away.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

On my knives, I tend to avoid long ricassos and finger grooves in front of the handle. On my designs it just looks like wasted space.

However, as I have learned many times (this being one of them) such elements look right at home on other's work. I understand the idea behind it and here, it fits.

I think the lines are fine and it's the thumb ramp that does it. Without the thumb ramp, the visual balance would be off, but with it, it comes together nicely.

Well done!

...love the colors too!

Another nice one Paul! You really come up with some interesting blade finishes! I see what both Nathan and Andy see and it definately requires a second look. This is not your typical drop point hunter that we've all seen 1000 times - I think it takes the mind a little longer to imagine how the knife would feel in your hand. Personally, I like a forward heavy knife which this certainly is. I think the only thing I would change if it was mine is a little beefier hande...... but then it wouldn't be as forward heavy.... So I guess that why people like you make these types of designs and people like me continue to make Loveless copies. Nicely done!

Thanks guys, all of you are right. I am not a big fan of choils. sometimes they work, other times not. This one I can live with because of the purpose. The customer and I sat down to discuss what he was looking for. One knife for fishing, camping, hunting... I think the choil gives him more options for grip and use. The next one I make in this style I may erease the choil and slide the handle forward and see what that looks like.

Thanks for your comments, always learning and experementing,
Paul

Talk to me about your allen screws in the handle.
Threaded barrels?
Tapped the tang?

Also, how did you achieve the finish?

Armory414; Are you starting to warm up

Andrew; Yes I used threaded barrels in 1/4" holes. I normaly use #2 screws, But I wanted the user to be able to remove the scales.
