Interesting
Methinks a little modification on the knife and sheath was done after it left the shop:

Ron, if it were not for the sheath, I'd be right there with you....
It's unmarked and the stone pocket is contoured to match the sheath line.... I enlarged the pictures an the sheath does not appear to be cut down. |

Hi Tune,
I did too and it looked like the stitches were a little "raggety". Hard to tell for sure on this one. The blade grinding sure looks professional. Reminds me of a "Beaver" knife I owned for a while: In any event it is not your run-of-the-mill Randall! |

I agree..... it's not a perfect Johnson...... what do you make of the stone pouch..... it looks like one piece out to the sheath edge.

Good point: Typically if there was enough room, the stone pocket sides were sewn independently from the border sew line. In this case it looks like there was enough clearance to do so before the sheath was contoured, but at the same time these stone pocket sides were not cut short. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this may be an indication that the sheath wasn't modified after the fact?????????

Maybe DW will have some insight...... it's an interesting knife for sure.
A re-grind or a custom? |

custom knife or not
Hi guys
I printed, but did not blow up, the picture of the knife. I showed to Greg Gutcher. He speculated it may have been a custom made RMK. He said it was hard to tell without knowing the dimensions of the knife/sheath. DW or someone from the RMK shop, should be able to provide an accurate opinion. Rod |

After mulling over this a few days, I can't see any reason why this is NOT from the shop. Hard to tell because of the age, but there were some oddballs that went out of the shop then. The sheath is a little rough, but same applies to the era I believe. This is not official an RMK opinion, just mine as a collector also. I like it though.

Yeah well the high bidder has a 14% rating with this seller, and he mostly sells computer stuff! Odd

Chief,
The high bidder has made 7 bids in the last 30 days and one of these bids was for this seller's item. That's how they came up with the 14% (1/7). Best, Ron |

That's problem with just being smart enough to be confused!!
Be nice to send to the shop for analyses. __________________ See Ya, Chief David Francis |

I emailed the seller last night, asking IF I was the successful bidder, would he allow me 5 days to take the knife to RMK to authenticate it.
His reply this morning was " I am confident with the item I am selling and its authenticity. If you have any doubts, please do not bid on the item. Thanks" I guess he told me. One last thing about the listing, don't Model C sheaths have tie down thongs. There does not even appear to be holes for thongs on the sheath!!!! Rod |
