i am considering on buying one of the new Nikon D-90 and i need to know what lens i should have for the type of photos i want to take .
some of you know me and my field in the firearms engraving , i need a lens that would give me micro as well as distant photos capabilities with sharp images of my engraving , your input is welcome .. thanks ron p __________________ ron p. nott |

The 18 to 55 Nikon lense will do the Macro thing nicely with the Macro setting on the camera. In Normal mode the same lense will do Normal pics also. I would look into a package deal with a couple lenses and other accesories.
Thats a pretty high end camera, you might also find that its more than you need, maybe a D60 or 80 will do you fine. Look on Ebay to see some of the packages available. Most of the big dealers on there are the same guys in the back of camera magazines, most in NY. I have dealt with a couple of them, no problems |

Ron,
Any lens that makes mention of it being macro (or 'micro' in Nikon speak) is what you need. Yes, the Nikon D90 camera is A+ So are a ton of others. I still maintain that a good used DSLR (from someone's upgrade) will serve nicely. Lastly, it's ALWAYS about the lighting with reflective objects. I can take a shot with my old 3.1mp Sony which will knock our socks off. The 'trick' to great knife photography is the lights, the diffusers, the reflectors and how to place it all. To that I could write a small book. It's about trial and error. Coop |
