Scrolled belt buckle
Here's a picture of a belt buckle I engraved a while back. It took around 20-25 hours and is in a style of scroll that I've been developing over the past few years. And yes, looking at it now with my own critical eye there are certain things I'd change, but it was just a practice/example piece and I'm happy to wear it to show off my work.

That's nice Marcus. Did you acid etch the background on it?

Hi Otto, no didn't etch the background on this. I tried but nitric doesn't seem to touch nickel-silver! That's why it took so long.

Very beautiful engraving, I congratulate you.
I have seen his last posts in the forum and there are quality works. As for the attack of the nitric acid to the fund of the engraving, you say that the nitric acid does not attack to the nickel - silver; friend Marcus differed with you. With the prepared nitric one of a suitable way it is possible to attack. A greeting and my congratulations. Montejano ------------------------------------- Very beautiful engraving, I congratulate you. I have seen his last poles on the set and they are works of quality. As to the attack of nitric acid to the engraving's bottom, you say that nitric acid does not attack nickel - silver; I disagree with you friend Marcus. One can attack with the nitric preparation of adequate manner. A greeting and my congratulations. Montejano |

Montejano, please give me the nitric acid recipe! I tried 3 to 1 which is what I'd use on steel.

the formula depends on what the strength of the acid is to start with. i've used analytical grade nitric diluted to 33%, it will etch through 1 mm thick nickle silver in about 5 minutes.

Marcus ,
Beautiful design. I have cut alot of nsilver, I think its tougher to cut than steel. Again , I like the flowing design that is a bit more open. Did you make the blank or purchase it? GRS sells one that looks similar. Kent |

Friend Marcus
Use you mix it that he says our friend Shakudo; That mixture is very adequate. But if you doesn?t obtain you good results proven to be, you tells it to me and I will indicate some guidelines or steps to you, in order to favor the attack of the acid.

Aqua Regis, I think BigAustin.
And yes Kent, it is a GRS buckle blank. I can't tell you the difficulty I've had trying to source a decent blank. Thanks guys, for all your help, advice and tips. Even though I'm new to this forum there seems to be a real warmth here and a willingness to share. Long may it continue, |
