forced patina

Put a carbon blade in the dishwasher with drying heat on and it comes out PERFECTLY black (have done this with countless Case knives) once black after the dishwasher treatment the blade has a nice black protective coating. Forget vinegar, acid all that stuff. This way is easy and makes a gorgeous patina while you watch tv, i found out by accident when tree sap would not wash off my knife and I put my Trapper in the dishwasher

I take it that you mean just heat in a moist environment, no water being used. I haven't owned a dish washer in over 30 years so I'm not familiar with the state of dishwasher technology these days. Even so, I wouldn't expect that to work with all carbon steels, probably need lots of molybdenum in it at a guess ...

It takes about 20 minutes.
Ok guys, my fault. I'm only 43 but every dishwasher I have ever seen has a button marked "drying heat/plate warmer" just pretend you cut the backstraps out of your buck and you want to sanitize your knife. Put it in the dishwasher, in the silverware trey, yurn it to hot wash and press the button that says "drying heat on" and hit "start"
It is identical to the forced enviornment machines used by gm and countless others to similate years of rust in a few short days. I promise you , it is the exact same effect as time, it produces a perminate black finish that doesn't rust (with very miminal care) and wont wash off. I have used sos pads to remove dry guts and fur (yes Im a hunter) and the patima is uneffected. You want deep, hard patima without acids, boiling in vinegar etc? Just try it

As far as the make up of the steel, it it whatever Case uses for their knives. Besides, MAKES NO DIFFERENCE WHAT KIND OFCARBON STEEL IT IS, think about it, whatever it is, if it will turn black after 4 years in your pocket, it will turn black in the. "accelerated envoirnment machine) dishwasher. I have done this with Old Timers and countless other brands both one of a kind customs and wal mart Old timers. The result is ALLWAYS THE SAME, perminant, black patima.
