Interesting. But, the knife is not 1964, it is post early-1966. Furthermore, though the 5th group did send teams into Vietnam early 1961-65, total of about 900 troopers on TDY during those years, the 5th group itself was not moved to Vietnam until early 1965. At that time I think the teams from the 7th and 1st on TDY in Vietnam all changed groups and were thereafter assigned to the 5th.

Now this guy could have been in the 5th group in 1964, and have been temporarily assigned to Vietnam before the group was moved from Ft. Bragg. It will not be hard to check the soldier's name and record, but that doesn't say much about the knife.

I would be concerned about the age of the knife, particularly the blade stamp. No way that is "early 1960s" or even 1964. I guess he could have been TDY from the 5th or 1st or 7th in 1964, became 5th group in 1965, ordered the knife and got it in 1966 before returning home ETS. Yep, the disconnects COULD all connect, but there are enough of disconnects to discount the knife ... my two cents.

I can't stand these guys who claim SF with suspect artifacts. I would like to... never mind...
