A quick update on this. I have finished painting and everything went well. Thought I would take a few pics because it will never be as clean as this again.

Glass platen installed using JB. Lip welded to bottom edge for safety. I used slack belts to round the leading and trailing edges of the glass platen. I did not round the sides. Heat painted.
