I seem to recall that. He would grind the blade, laving the edge an ample thickness and then, when finished, rather than holding the edge firmly against the belt, kind of "roll" it up and down, so that the edge, for maybe 1/6" to 1/8" would have a convex curvature to it. This might be all wrong, but it's kind of what I remember. A lot like some makers sharpen, still. I think that is sort of what is meant by a "Moran" edge, too.(?) He was very capable at making his drawings come alive, I don't think I could grind those curves like him!
