"Heading up North"
After basic training, I got a 2 week leave before I had to report to to my permanent duty station.
I went back home and got to visit with the kinfolks.My uncle was especially glad to see me
in uniform...I had gained 26 lbs in the 2 months I was gone. The time flew by, me and my older
brother closed a few honky-tonks,and soon it was time to go.
My Dad helped me make a cardboard case for my guitar, a Stella flat-top that cost five dollars
used...only had 5 strings on it, but it was all I had.I got on the grey hound for a 3 day and 2 nights trip to Caribou, Maine.I had never been east of Oklahoma, was excited to see some new country.
